An interesting shop selling accessories, homeware and fun clothing, where, on the first floor, in the small gallery with large windows, amongst contemporary lighting fixtures, it’s lovely to stop for lunch.

RUMI - 43, Rue Amrah - Kasbah

A small boutique selling scented candles, offering a wide range of fragrances; the lids can be personalised with trimmings in various colours and the packaging in your chosen shade (€25), located just a few metres down from the main square, near the iconic Café Baba (a café once frequented by the Rolling Stones, now in a state of a bit disrepair).

BOUTIQUE MAJID – 66, Rue Les Almohades - Medina

For generations, the most famous and chic shop in Tangier. Undoubtedly the most expensive, too. Beautiful, antique and highly sought-after items, exquisite local crafts, (stunning) jewellery, rugs, fabrics and caftans. Majid (whose full name is Abdel Majid Rais El Fenni) is a friend of the Rolling Stones and many other prominent figures who have passed through Tangier over the years. An address not to be missed.

Berber rugs from the Atlas Mountains, featuring a wide variety of colours and designs.

MADINI – 5, Bd. Pasteur

A historic perfumery dating back to 1919. Elegant, unique perfumes and essential oils that evoke *The Thousand and One Nights*: sandalwood, jasmine, orange blossom. I recommend the large bars of soap with their beautiful packaging (the yellow one with orange blossom is absolutely lovely) and the Oud-based room spray (all around €5). Their shopping bags are lovely, featuring the antique Art Deco logo used to package the perfumes.

HARIRI PERFUMES Rue Semarine, near the Grand Socco and the Jardin de la Mendoubia

Another small shop – the first one they opened – is on Rue Les Almohades: a historic perfume shop offering a wide range of fragrances, eau de parfum and scented waters. Do try their orange blossom water, which comes in a lovely glass bottle.

CASA BARATA

Flea market, a tangerine Porta Portese. Years ago, it was a treasure trove of finds, antique artefacts, rare vintage pieces and all sorts of curiosities, which many people used to furnish their eclectic and chic homes. Nowadays, you’ll mainly find electronics, furniture, basic low-cost rugs, useless knick-knacks and poor-quality kaftans. It’s still worth popping in to experience the city’s vibrant atmosphere and perhaps still unearth a few little treasures.

LIBRAIRIE DES COLONNES

Located on Boulevard Pasteur, in the heart of the city, Librairie des Colonnes is much more than a bookstore: it is a symbolic place in Tangier’s cultural and literary life.
Founded in 1949 by the Gerofi family, it is the oldest bookstore in the city and, over time, has become a true intellectual salon, frequented by some of the greatest writers of the twentieth century—including Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote.
From its very beginnings, it has served as a meeting point for languages, cultures, and ideas, contributing to the cosmopolitan identity that makes Tangier unique within the Mediterranean landscape.
Today, beyond offering books in several languages—French, Arabic, English, and Spanish—the bookstore continues to thrive as an active cultural space, hosting presentations, gatherings, and moments of exchange between authors and readers.
Restored and revitalized in recent years, it retains its original charm: shelves filled with stories, warm wood tones, soft light—a place where time seems to slow, and words return to being an experience.
More than a bookstore, it is a house of memory and literature, where Tangier continues to tell its story through many voices.

In the discreet heart of Tangier, away from tourist noise and the most obvious paths, there exists a place that does not simply sell books, but lives them, connects them, transforms them into experience.
The bookshop Les Insolites is a space suspended between a bookstore, an art gallery, and a cultural salon — a meeting point for those who seek not only reading, but dialogue.
Here, every shelf tells the story of a Mediterranean shaped by thought, identity, and crossings. Languages blend — French, Arabic, English — just as people do: artists, writers, travelers, and locals. It is not a place of passage, but a place for intentional pause.
Les Insolites does not merely display books: it stages them.

TINDOUF GALLERY (Rue de la Liberte opposite hotel El Minzah)

Tindouf Gallery (often associated with the Tindouf Bazaar) is a historic institution in Tangier, renowned for its collection of antiques, modern art, and collectible objects. Founded in the 1920s by the Temli family, it is run by Boubker Temli, a curator recognized for his expertise in modern art and rare objects.

KASBAH COLLECTIVE

Kasbah Collective is a concept store and contemporary art gallery located in the heart of Tangier’s Kasbah. Opened in 2021, this space positions itself as a crossroads between traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and modern design, showcasing local and sustainable creations.

New Tangier is a Moroccan luxury brand founded in 2014 by designer Kenza Bennani, who has also collaborated with Louis Vuitton. It stands out for its “slow fashion” approach, blending traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary, minimalist design. By appointment only; the atelier is located near the Phoenician Tombs.
